DISP for multinational companies

DISP membership is open to businesses incorporated in Australia. [Draft] For a multinational, that means fitting DISP alongside global policies, systems and teams. We align the implementation with your organisation's size, maturity and experience in Defence.

Key challenges

  1. An Australian entity

Eligibility requires a business incorporated in Australia with an ABN.

  2. Global systems, local requirements

[Draft] Shared global IT and security platforms must still meet the DISP requirements of your chosen level.

  3. Global policies

[Draft] Group-wide policies need Australian governance documentation that maps them to DISP.

  4. Local officers

[Draft] Your Chief Security Officer and Security Officer must be able to obtain Australian security clearances and act for the Australian business.

  1. Who applies

DISP membership is open to businesses incorporated in Australia that hold an ABN, have someone able to obtain a Defence security clearance, and are financially viable. [Draft] For a multinational, that is usually the Australian subsidiary or entity that delivers the Defence work.

  2. Fitting DISP into a global organisation

[Draft] Global IT environments, shared policies and offshore reporting lines all need to be mapped against DISP's four domains. [Draft] The gap analysis identifies where the Australian entity needs its own controls and where group-wide arrangements already meet the requirements.

  3. Foreign ownership

[Draft] Defence considers foreign ownership, control or influence as part of a DISP application. [Awaiting Garraan's guidance on how it advises multinationals on foreign ownership, control or influence.]

  4. How we help

[Awaiting confirmation of Garraan's experience with multinational clients.] We work with your Australian leadership and global teams to scope the program, write the documentation and lodge the application.

By company size

Explore other audiences

Company size

  • SMEs

For SMEs entering or growing in Defence. Entry Level often suits best, delivered as a fixed-price package.

  • Large Enterprises

For large organisations with multiple sites and teams. Coordinate DISP across functions and build on the frameworks you already run.

Industries

  • Engineering & Design

Engineering and design firms building military hardware and Defence technology. Most tenders in the field require DISP membership.

  • Manufacturing & Fabrication

Manufacturers and fabricators supplying Primes and Defence. Protect drawings, parts and premises, and meet the DISP level your contracts require.

  • Consultants & Contractors

Advisory, engineering, cyber, project management and logistics consultants. A mixed-level approach can give you clearance flexibility at a lower cost.

  • Aerospace & Space

Military aviation, R&D and satellite technology firms. Manufacturers in the sector typically need Entry Level at minimum.

  • Shipbuilding & Naval Engineering

Shipbuilders, naval architects and their suppliers. Meet Prime and Defence requirements across yards, workshops and design offices.

  • Building & Construction

Construction firms working on Defence projects. Level 1 personnel and governance for self-sponsorship is often a pivotal advantage.

  • Logistics & Supply Chain

Logistics and supply chain firms supporting Defence. Entry Level is often sufficient, depending on the clearances your staff need.

  • Maintenance & Support Services

Maintenance, repair and support providers working on Defence equipment and sites. Clear your people and keep your membership current.

  • MSPs & MSSPs

MSPs and MSSPs supporting Defence suppliers. Choose the right cyber standard, reach the required Essential Eight maturity and plan accreditation.

Roles

  • Directors & CEOs

What DISP asks of company leadership: the commercial case, the Chief Security Officer role and the right level for your business.

  • Compliance Officers

For chief compliance officers: the four DISP pillars, the documentation behind them and systems that keep compliance sustainable.

  • CTOs & IT Managers

For CTOs and IT managers: the cyber requirements at each DISP level, choosing a standard and planning accreditation without over-investing.

  • Business Development

For business development leaders: what DISP membership costs, what it opens up, and how clearance readiness can win work.

Questions

  1. Who is eligible for DISP membership?

[Draft] Your business must be incorporated in Australia, hold an ABN, have someone able to obtain a Defence security clearance, and be financially viable. We confirm your eligibility in the first consult.

  2. Who should be our Chief Security Officer and Security Officer?

Every DISP member must designate both roles, and each has prerequisites a staff member must meet before taking it on.

The Chief Security Officer (CSO) must be a senior executive, typically a director, board member, involved shareholder or other high-level executive. The CSO owns the company's DISP compliance and builds its security culture.

The Security Officer (SO) is the hands-on role: advising staff and management on security, annual reporting, annual security awareness training, managing clearances and reporting to Defence. An office manager, operations manager, IT manager or Defence project lead often fills it. The SO reports to the CSO.
