The entry point to Defence work

Entry Level is the lowest level of DISP. Defence designed it to bring organisations up to modern information security standards.

It is often required of subcontractors to Primes, the large Defence contractors. Primes and government Defence tenders increasingly mandate it. It is not officially confirmed, but many in the industry report that DISP members are preferred even in tenders that do not list DISP as a requirement.

What Entry Level requires

To gain Entry Level membership, your organisation will:

  • Develop governance documentation for handling classified material
  • Assign a Security Officer and a Chief Security Officer
  • Bring ICT up to modern standards in line with the Essential Eight
  • Put a risk management plan in place to identify, assess and mitigate threats
  • Make sure every employee understands their responsibilities for safeguarding classified information

How we close the gap

We start with a gap analysis across the four domains, then work through the action plan with you:

  • Security plan: identifying critical assets, setting access control protocols, and implementing physical and cyber security measures
  • Employee training: how to handle classified information and report potential security breaches
  • Risk management: a framework and procedures aligned with DISP requirements
  • Application: we prepare and lodge it, prepare your SO and CSO for interview and respond to Defence's recommendations

Who Entry Level suits

In our experience, Entry Level is sufficient for most companies in the supply chain. Companies deeply involved in Defence, for example designing and manufacturing critical combat systems and components, are better suited to Level 1 and above.

SMEs often find DISP compliance complex to navigate. Many executives prefer to outsource the work to specialists and spend their time on growth. The same applies to senior staff who could implement Entry Level themselves, but whose time and wages make it hard to justify. A site visit is typically not required at this level.

Questions

All questions

  1. Which DISP level do I need?

In our experience, Entry Level is sufficient for most companies in the supply chain. Level 1 suits companies that want to self-sponsor security clearances, and Levels 2 and 3 suit organisations working on classified projects. We confirm the right level in your initial consult.

  2. How much does it cost?

Entry Level is a fixed-price, all-inclusive package. Higher levels are priced after the initial consult. [Awaiting whether prices or ranges should be published.]

  3. How long does it take?

[Awaiting typical timeframes per level from the business.] Every project has a predictable timeline agreed up front, with weekly or fortnightly progress meetings.
